The successgrau

The fast mark could be never made with the leather production. Before the tanner in the last century could sell a square foot of leather tanned ready, much time passed: The animal skins were buried for the preservation together with tree bark and lime in damp pits for some years. Nobody got money in that time.

Nevertheless made the young master Christian David Oehler after 1823 quickly a good name. The business with the skins flourishes. 1840 are already the business modernized thoroughly for the first time, the old tanner hut torn down. A new production centre is made.

The industrial revolution that becomes in the German states bigger and bigger didn't stop for the tanner guild too. The traditional production is switched over to the popular "polishing calfskin blazing even tanned" at yellow in the eighties of the 19th century.

But the watches go always faster: The costly made of calfskin is to expensive for mass production. Large leather factories which put chrome tanned box calfskin on the market come into being. The third head of the company recognizes Christian David Oehler afterwards to mourn instead of past, the signs of the time.

The production is switched over to opening leather after the turn of the century. The industrial revolution of one's own follows yellow in the house little later: A modern factory building is made and the modern chrome tannery takes the vegetable tannery off largely in the thirties, a method which has stock to this day.

The Oehler family successfully masters crisis years: War and inflation, coercive management and currency reform. In the recent company past the perhaps biggest challenge is been: Oehler is not the victim of the decline of the line of business like most leather factories in Germany in this country but can hold itself with international customers as one of the leading German manufacturers.
